The Joy of Christmas in Guatemala.
December 20, 2009, at exactly 4:00am we got ready for our trip to a village called
EL PINITO, this village is in MOYUTA JUTIAPA
Pastor Alirio and one of his elders came but I had to persuade the pastor to go back to be with his Church on Sunday morning so he did but not without leaving us in the good hands of Henry, an elder of his Church.
Ale drove, in spite of the fever and cold she has been battling. We got to the more developed part of the village and we went to greet Pastor Edgar who is wheel- chair bound. He and his wife served us strong black coffee.
Pastor Edgar and his wife and a few elders gave us a good reception. His is presently erecting his Church building.
A man called Marcelino who lives in the very poor part of the area took us from Pastor Edgar to his village.
The road is so bad that people use horses to scale the mountain. I thought that horses would be very expensive, but Marcelino told us that the cost is only about $250:00 USA.
What we saw in these villages cannot be described. I was not even man enough to keep from weeping. People here live in a manner that’s less than human.
Due to lack of rain this year, the crops of these villagers all perished so they have no food. Every family survives on corn called Tortilla; their livestock live on corn as well.
Ale and I, on behalf of New World Ministries took a bag of black beans – 100 lbs, some shirts, ties and shoes. A friend and a neighbour called Samuel whose factory is right next door to where we lived donated some T- shirts and clothes for infants.
Pastor Alirio and his Church gave more clothes, shoes and toys. Ale’s mother donated clothes and shoes also.
